Avocado Mask

As much as I love avocados, I don’t eat them that frequently, because they are high in fat.

You may not want to give your hips any additional treats, but your hair may love you for it.

Take the innards of an avocado (use half if it’s a large avocado) and about a teaspoon of olive oil.  Mash up the avocado in a bowl, then add olive oil. It’s a good idea to warm up your mixture before applying it.

Start at the ends, working your way up the hair shaft. Cover your hair with a plastic bag, and then wrap head with warm towel, or sit under a warm *NOT HOT* hair dryer for at least 20 minutes.

Rinse, wash and condition as normal. Your hair should be soft, silky and shiny.

When doing the avocado mask, should I apply it to dry or damp hair?
    Thanks, La Negra!

You apply it to dry hair. It probably wouldn’t do any damage if you hair is damp, but I always put in my hair when it’s dry.

You apply it to your hair before you wash; it’s a pre-shampoo conditioner and the longer you leave it on, the better your hair feels.
After you rinse it out, then you shampoo are you normally would.

Yes, this one works like a charm! Leaves my hair shinier than any product from a drug or beauty supply store.

I make a point to use it anytime my hair is extra dry. Because I have so many professional products, I tend to use those first. There’s less of the mad-scientist mess to clean up. However, there’s nothing wrong with using the avocado mask frequently. You just want to watch out that your hair is not becoming limp.

Hola La Negra, I was wondering if I can only use olive oil or if extra virgin olive oil would be fine to use as well

    Hola bella,

I actually prefer extra virgin olive oil, but either will do :)

I use this mask, however I also add an egg yolk for the protein. It also leaves your hair soft and shiny.

Yes, Brenda! Egg is a great source of protein for the body and the hair. I usually use egg whites, but will try the yolk. Thanks for sharing!
