HUMIDITY!!!!!

Okay…so we all know, its the end of July/early August and the weather is less than accomdating for our blow outs. Despite my best efforts, the humidity always gets the best of my hair and I end up needing to use more heat styling to touch it up. Do you know of any products that will help keep my hair from frizzing as much. I know it will a little, because thats just the way it is.  But what can I do to keep it from getting out of control?

Humidity. Where does one start?

Well, I typically start off by recognizing that, as you mentioned, July and August, depending on your geographic location, is going to cause a lot of us to go nuts trying to tame the frizz. If I even bother blowing my hair out, which I have not been doing the last few weeks, I start with an anti-frizz product, such as Sleek and Shine, by Garnier Fructise or Frizz Zapper Anti-Frizz Anti-Oil Glosser, which you can pick up at Sally’s.

There are a number of Anti-Frizz products that you can pick up at Sally’s, or any beauty supply that are pretty inexpensive. I usually start with a dime, or quarter size squirt, mixed with my favorite leave-in (ya’ll know it’s CHI Silk Infusion) and start at the ends of my hair, and work my way up to the crown.

Adding an anit-frizz serum has helped to hold down the hair on some really wicked, humid days.  Yes, I still sometimes see frizz and wonder why I bothered pulling out the blower, but when I don’t use it, I actually see a bit of a difference.

Another thing I must add, is that there are times when I know that it’s going to be really humid and I just don’t want to fight against nature. On such days,  rather than doing a dubi, I’ll just work with my hair by using the same anti-frizz-CHI mix and then do a flip-out-curl style instead. This way, my ends are still smooth, but the puffiness actually adds to the style, by giving my hair some body.

Hi… you mentioned flip out curl style.. can you explain what is for us slow people..lol

I guess I’m the “slow” one. I just assume everyone knows what I’m talking about LOL.

This style really works better if you have layers. Rather than doing a dubi, you just pull all of you hair on top of your head, in one ponytail and using your fingers, roll your ponytail forward, then pin it down. So, it looks like you have a big rolo on top of your head. When you pull it out the next morning, you have bouncy layered curls.

    Something like I had here.

You can also do smaller finger curls and pin them up with a jumbo bobby pin. (I have a feeling that a video is coming soon lol).

Oh..ok, I was wondering if that was what you were talking about. I actually do finger curls every night with the bobby pins..it makes my curls last forever…..but the ponytail thing I need to try. Do you still use rolos and blow the roots then do the ponytail thing? I loved how it looked….

Yes, that’s it! Just pin the hair up in little finger-rolos. It comes out nicely.
The ponytail version is exactly the same, but it’s just one big finger curl on the top of your head. You pin it in too.

I wash, put in rolos and do everything as if I were going to do a dubi, but instead, do finger curls.
    Make sense?

Hi, so… I have been getting dominican/puerto rican (if that is even real-she was peurto rican so whatever LOL) blowouts. I’m stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC and it gets HUMID here! I love the the dominican blow out because it really caters to my fine/curly hair. Im asian and black and I have NEVER found anything that gets my hair straighter without weighing it down! the only problem is the humidity! I am a fan of Alterna Caviar products..granted they are pricey but the omega 3′s etc, are absolutely worth it. If any of you out there have fine hair as well, please le tme know some of the products you use to keep your hair tame…thanks!

    Hi Maryann,

I’m in NYC now, will be looking into products for your fine hair. However, don’t know that much will help with extreme humidity. All of the effort I put into blowing my hair out before I arrived went right out of the window.

    I frizzed up almost immediately.
