Hair Shedding after baby!
Love your site. I’m a NYC baby, too now living in Raleigh. I miss my salons, but try to do my best at home. I’m going to try your coconut and avocado recipes. Anything else I can try to strengthen and grow my hair back after my little bambina wreaked havoc on it. Thanks, keep up the blog, LOVE IT!
I’m glad you like the site. I’m due for an update
How old is your baby? Are you nursing?
You know that it’s pretty normal to experience shedding after having a baby, because your hair doesn’t shed as much during your pregnancy. A few of my friends said that the only time they liked their hair is when they were pregnant.
Whenever hormones start to go back to normal, most women start to shed. Unfortunately, there is no magic solution, because nature, as you know, has to take it’s course. The trick is to maintain as hair as possible.
Doing a regular protein treatment should minimize shedding, but when I say regular, I mean no more than once a month for heavy-duty proteins. I really like Aphogee, the 2 step system. My other favorite is a protein treatment that can be used more often, CHI Silk Infusion. This one is great, because a little goes a long way, and it doesn’t dry your hair out.
If you are in a pinch and need something quick, try using mayo. Yep…plain, ol’ mayonnaise. It stinks, but it works. My mother used to put in my hair BEFORE shampooing for about 20 minutes. Then she would shampoo me and put a really good moisturizing conditioner in my hair.
If your hairline is where the shedding is happening, try to lighten up on wearing your hair in styles that pull: pony tails, buns, etc and try to limit handling hair in that area.
With a baby in the picture, you probably don’t have a lot of time to do your hair and that might work in your favor, because it means that you will limit the stress on your hair.
Hope that helps,
LaNegra
