Silk Amino Acid – Review (Phase 1)

I am so terribly sorry this took so long to get to, but I think that there has been a benefit to it taking so long.

When I first received my Silk Amino Acid, I didn’t know what to think or how to use it. Eventually, it occurred to me that one of my favorite products, CHI Silk Infusion, contained…silk! Here’s the thing. Silk Amino Acid comes in a liquid form, so I received a bottle and wasn’t too sure how much would work.

After experimenting, I wanted to get my testing down to a more “scientic” routine. I wanted to be able to repeat the results, not just get a hit-or-miss recipe. With this in mind, I used a bowl that hair stylist uses for hair dye, or other products that need to be measured. These bowls are pretty inexpensive; you can get one at Sally’s.

  1. I poured a bowl full of my Humecto in and the added a cap full of Silk Amino Acid.
  2. I left this mix on for about 30 minutes (was unpacking more boxes, lost track of time).
  3. Rinsed out.

My hair felt like…SILK!!! I absolutely love the way my hair felt. It was moist, supple and easy to comb.

I know you purchased yours online. Is silk amino acid available at Sally’s? Thanks

  2. LaNegra says:

No mamita. I don’t think they have it there. I have not seen it anywhere in a store, but it was worth every penny, including shipping!

  3. Rere says:

How do you think this will work of transitional and natural hair?

  4. LaNegra says:

I cannot imagine that it will do anything other than give a natural, or transitioning head of hair moisture. I cannot even begin to tell you how soft and silky my hair was. I usually dread the wet combing aspect of my “hair days” but the comb seemed to glide through effortlessly.
Now, I will say that if you are transitioning, growing out a relaxer, you still want to handle your hair with kit gloves; the two different hair textures usually lead to a lot of shedding.

Omg this sounds great! Where online did you buy Silk Amino Acid? I want to buy it!

  6. LaNegra says:

    I ordered it from lotioncrafter.com (http://www.lotioncrafter.com/silk-amino-acids.html).
Their prices were really good, because it seems that a little goes a long way. If you buy it, let me know what you think, k?

  7. lindamorena says:

La negra are there any products out there that have a lot of silk protiens in it so that maybe i won’t have to buy online?

  8. LaNegra says:

I swear by Chi Silk Infusion and another reader recommended silk amino acid, which is a liquid that I purchased, but I can only find it online. However, if you buy a big enough bottle, a lot goes a long, long way. Otherwise, my favorite is Chi, hands down. If anyone else knows of a product comparable to Chi, please share :)

    Hello!!
I am so thankful that I came across your website while looking for information on how to do a blowout! The information that I have found on hair products is priceless!!!! I can also confirm that this Chi Silk Infusion is wonderful! I used it in place of my setting lotion and I have had curls all week! I have found a new must have product. Thank you so much!!!

  10. Mena says:

I have been hearing so much about this silk amino acid and after your review I know now that I need to order some becuase my hair just loves the chi silk infusion. I know that it will love this even more since it is pure silk amnio acids. What is the Humecto? Is it like Aubrey Organics? Thanks for the review:)

  11. Dawne says:

The CHI Silk Infusion is the bomb! Its pricy but worth it unless you can find it at Costco for $9 (yes for the large reg $22-30 bottle). I LOVE IT! But that Silk Amino Acid as an additive may be the way to go to stretch your own products for a lower cost.
    Thanks for the info!

  12. LaNegra says:

Gracias Dawn. I’m going to see if anyone I know has a membership to Costco! I didn’t know that they carried CHI and for such a great price? I’m on it!

  13. Trinisoul says:

Like Malena I was looking for info on doing a Dominican Blow out and found your blog. Great information and this is now on my product must haves.

  14. Trinisoul says:

    Sorry, Marlena for spelling error

  15. Diana says:

Where did you purchase the Humecto? Is there a specific brand? I cannot find it anywhere…
Let me know…I would love to try this combo to see how it works vs the Chi.

  16. LaNegra says:

Humecto is made by Avalon. I usually buy it when I’m in NYC, or have my mom ship some out to me. I haven’t looked online for it, but I’ll see if I can find it online for you.

I use Humecto AND Chi…there’s enough room in my hair-life for both :)
