Hi chicas, "conditioner wash" means not using shampoo to wash your hair but only conditioner to do so. Shampoo has sulfates, which is simply detergent as harsh as the ones we use to wash our clothes or the bathroom. But the beauty industry adds a substance to make it bubbly and lathered up so we feel its really good for your hair, when the reality is different. Shampoo is Detergent, not a mild soap for hair. Touch your hair or even dry it after only washing with shampoo, and see how your hair feels. Google "shampoo ingredients" and you will see that it totally strips hair of all oils and leaves it extremely dry, this is why the industry sells us conditioner so we can mask the damage that the shampoo created. Many of us wouldnt even consider washing our hair if we dont have conditioner in the house right? "Conditioner wash" or better known as a
"CO wash" can really clean your hair. You can use a "cleansing or claryfying" conditioner or really any conditioner, especially in the scalp to wash out dirt and sweat, rinse very well, and then you can apply moisturizing or deep conditioner to condition it as you always do. Result: Clean, conditioned hair without stripping your natural oils! Ever wondered why many people say that our hair looks better and more manageable when its dirty? Its because natural oils starts showing and it makes it shiny. After i read this a year ago, i thought it was crazy, but gave it a try, and my hair is so soft and shiny. I have also avoided the blower, and i am air drying it and then when its almost 80% dry i put the rolos and within the hour my hair is set. I will use the blower for 60 seconds (using a timer) to smooth out roots quickly. My hair is finally coming alive again. Being puertorican/cuban with wavy hair, i grew up with blowing totally wet dripping hair. What a mistake. Try the co wash, if you must use shampoo, buy the sulfate FREE one, (loreal sells a good line) and use it only 1 or 2x a month (or 1 a week) and you will see the difference. Aside from avoiding direct heat with blower, ditch the daily shampoo and you will see a huge difference. Treat your hair like silk, not like laundry! :)

Hey Canela! Hace mucho tiempo. Como estas?

1. I use one clip on each side of my roller (most of the time). I always use two on each rolo when doing the mohawk, but sometimes only put one clip on the front column.

2. I think I use about 21 rolos total. I use approx 7 for the mohawk. Three from forehead to crown; one on the crown and 3 for the back. Then I do the inner column - 4 rolos and then the two columns in the front (by my face) and I usually put three there.

3. Your length is only an issue when 1: choosing the correct size rolos and 2. putting enough rolos to dry quickly.

I'll do another video and try to focus on where I place the clips. It's a little difficult, because I don't usually have any help when I am doing my vids, but I'll get something posted for you as soon as I can.

Whats up LaNegra? Thanks again for all your great work here!! I have a two questions about rolos:

1. How many clips do you use for each rolo, and how are you putting them in so that they are nice and tight? Mine tend to be all floppy after I clip them

2. How many rolos are you using for your roller set? About how many do you put in the mohawk and how many on the sides ?

My length is about an inch or so shorter than yours so I wanna try to duplicate how you are doing your rollerset..

thanks and much love,

Hola Elise! Puedes explicarme que es, "conditioner wash?" Is that a special type of shampoo?
Entonces, thick hair is a blessing, but it's definitely requires effort when doing it yourself. Can you put bigger rolos, or perhaps more rolos in your hair? That will cut down on drying time. However, if you're doing a good job...you may want to leave things as they are, right? :D

Hola La Negra!
I think my issue with the rolos magneticos is that I have thick hair and I think I had too much hair on one roller. Anywho... Rollersetting has been getting better I'm currently 9 weeks post relaxer and not doing too bad, so I'm doing something right! HaHa! I often conditioner wash if I'm working out and that seems to be working really well and it keeps my hair pretty moisturized. Gracias por todos!

Hola Elise,

Yes, yes, yes!! It's so much better to put rolos in, especially if you are not going to blowout your hair.
I work out a lot too and my hair is often frizzy, FRIZZY, but I'll say that if you can shampoo your hair, put in rolos and let your hair air dry or sit under the dryer with cool air, rather than he, it's the best solution.

The only thing you want to be cautious of, is if you have curly, frizzy, kinky hair, you want to be sure to moisturize really well.
You'll need to shampoo your hair to remove the sweat. At the very least do a thorough rinse after working out. Then dry a deep conditioner, but
when in a rush, try using one of the oil concoctions I listed before you even head out to the gym, then shampoo as normal.

Now, pull those rolos out and put them to good use :)

Besos,

LaNegra

Hey La Negra,
I'm back after too long. I have been using the rolos magneticos and they have been working really well. What I am wondering is if it's okay for me to rollerset my hair 2-3 times a week. Not necessarily do the blowout but just the rollerset. I workout 5-6 times a week. Thanks!

Congrats!!!
I think that the Turbo 2000 would be good. You are going to have to learn how to keep the air-flow from hitting your scalp and definitely want to keep that blower moving, as not to fry one particular section of your hair.

I have heard of CHI blowers, but never used one, so cannot recommend them.

Keep me posted!

Hi...I got my Pibbs 514 today!! YAY!.... So now I am on a hunt for the turbo 1500....actually one of the salons said she would sell me a turbo 2000....do you think that would be too much for home use?
Also, what have you heard or what do you know about the CHI blow dryers?
Thanks!! :-)

Hey chica! I'll tell you this much. If you find a salon that is willing to do your "kinky and coily hair" be careful, because then they may use too much heat.
That's one advantage to learning to do your own hair. It's better to prevent damage than try to repair it.
