Domincan Blowout Technique – Video

Give a girl a video camera and she forgets how to behave, lol.

So, here’s a quick vid showing how to do a domincan blowout.
Some notes:

1. I hardly use any tension, let the blower do the work for me.

2. Notice the flaking near the scalp – that is NOT dandruff, it’s a creme leave-in. I pulled it out of the closet, wondering why I had not used it in a long, long, long time…um…now I know why…F-L-A-K-E-S! Anyway, I digress.

3. Notice that I keep the blower moving. I don’t hold it any one place for longer than a moment.

4. Lastly, I don’t go all the way down the shaft with the blower, because I don’t think it’s necessary; I just want to get the kinks out, smooth out the roots and get my hair sleek with minimal heat damage.

5. I do not put anything in my hair until AFTER I’m done blowing. When I pull out the rolos, I blow, THEN I put in a finishing creme, or serum.

Thank you guapa! Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some more up soon, but the main thing is the blowout part, IMHO.

Well, I’m still debating on that…they sell them on Ebay..and there was one guy who was selling his without any attachments….are the attachments universal and fit any blower?…. There was a salon that was going to sell me a turbo 2000 or 3000 but they wanted $200 for it…definitely not spending that much especially just after buying the pibbs.

  12.

I’m not sure if the attachments are universal, but I wouldn’t risk it. Who is to say that you have an easy time getting an attachment?
I think that $300 is way too much. Have you tried doing a search? I did a quick one and came up with one for as cheap as $62 (click the link).

  13.

This video makes it look so easy!Your hair has grown so much since your last haircut I’m glad for you.**wish my hair could grow that fast**Do you think it would be as easy if your growth shrinks and is more coily? The blower looks as if it’s an eraser that erases the kinks :D I’ll try it once i get a blower i’m sure it will take lot of time till i get one :(
Is the twin turbo as good as the turbo and can you remind me that brand you use?

  14.

It’s easy after you get the hang of it. Yes, my hair has grown a lot. I am actually thinking about keeping it this length. I used to keep it super even, no layers, but now I like the layers and find that this length is easier to manage than when it’s really long.

Do you mean, is it easier to blow out your hair when your have more coils in the root? If so, then not necessarily. It’s simply a matter of knowing how to work the blower and the brush at the same time. Also, it’s extremely important to keep the blower moving. You never want to let it sit still for long.

I don’t recall hearing of a twin turbo. Do you have a pic, or link?

  15.

No i meant that will it by as easy to blow out more coily/curly hair than yours? But i think your answer has covered me .To see pic of the twin turbo go to amazon and click on the search box ”Turbo power” and you’ll see lot’s of twin turbo blowers.I wanted to post the link but i couldn’t paste it here.So just go to amazon and see it.And also is it from the same company as your blower?

  16.

Ah, ok :) I get ya now.
Ok, I did just what you asked. I did a generic search on Amazon and learned something new!!

My blower is made by Pibbs!! I didn’t realize that it’s the very same company that made my big hair dryer.
So, in that case the one you mentioned might be perfect. Let me know which one you end up getting.

  17.

Ok.When i get it i’ll let you know.I’ll let my sister buy one for me when she has enough cash (i hope that’s soon) :)

  18.

You make it look so easy:) I attempted this awhile ago and ended up blowing my hair all over the place. I felt and looked like those frustrated women you see in hair infomercials…lol
The videos are very helpful. Thank you!

  19.

It IS easy, after lots and lots and lots of practice. :)
My mother used to pic on me because she said that we were all spoiled and should know how to do our own rolos.
Who knew I’d HAVE to do it myself?

Oh, let me tell you. If you looked like “those frustrated women you see in hair informercials” I was in the seat right next to you!
I bet, if you keep practicing, you WILL get it. You may put your rolos in differently than I do, but you will definitely get it.

BTW, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog! It made me hunnnnnngry :)

    Besos,

    LaNegra

You are so right about having lots and lots and lots of practice. lol I remember doing my first set years ago and it took over 2 hours just getting the rollos in. Now, I’m done in 3o mins. (I’d still like to speed that up to maybe 2o mins.) So, I know what you mean. I usually flat iron the new growth because I have more control with it than the blow dryer, but your video has given me inspiration to try this again!
Thanks so much for the reassurance and for visiting my blog. I really appreciate it:) Stop by anytime!

Hey..I gave in last week and went to the dominicans..but made a new observation I’d like to share. Right before she rolled me up…I was looking at what she puts in my hair because I need to buy some leave in… they usually use the Salerm products, but this time I noticed she used a Sebastian 2+1 conditioner to set my hair with. I tried to ask her about it but her English wasn’t that great…. Have you used or heard of this? When my hair was dry, it was sooooo silky and smooth. Of course I came home and looked it up and found it…. its called 2+1 conditioner because its 2 parts water and 1 part conditioner…. here is a link

Hola chica!..Finally got my blower in today…its the red turbo 1500 just like yours :-) .I got it on Ebay. Of course I was so anxious to use it, but I did a roller set this past Saturday (my second one btw :-) ) because I thought I was going to get it in the mail Sat but it was delayed..but anyway, I say that to say that I used the blower today for the first time on 2 day old hair…so the questions I have is…when you use it, which setting do you use it on?… Do you use the high speed with the highest heat selection?..Also, I noticed that my hand coordination isn’t good yet, but will get better….but you mentioned that you don’t put tension on the hair…but when using the round brush for the roots…arent we supposed to pull down a little with tension then zap it with the heat?…Anyway, I love the blower…but of course my roots are not all the way straight for my first time…hope it gets better :-)

  23.

    Hey Kensmom!

I am excited to hear that you got your blower. I will be expecting pics :D

  24.

yeah me too…but about the tension..do you use it or not? And which setting do you use on the blower?

  25.

Oops. Sorry, didn’t answer your question.
I use very little tension. I only use the brush to grip the hair while passing the blower over. I put my blower on the hottest and fastest setting.

Be careful! It gets really, really HOT!

  26.

Thanks for the video, it is the best tutorial out there :) ) One question, do you comb or brush out the curls after you take out the rolos and before you pass the blower? Also, do you like Razac finishing creme? Is it too greasy to use on a daily basis?

  27.

    Gracias Globeza!

    1. No, I do NOT comb out my rizos until after I’ve passed the blower.
    2. I used to swear by Razac, still have a huge jar. However, lately I have been using the light weight, clear serums, such as I.C.

I don’t use anything on a daily basis; usually, I am good until the next time I shampoo. I find that too much product attracts dirt and weighs my hair down too much.

  28.

La Negra, Tengo una pregunta para ti, does your hair brush melt because of the heat you use? or is that only me, i’ve melted 2 brushes so far and it’s only my first week doing a blow out. are there special brushes i’m supposed to use?

  29.

Hola Linda, I use a boars hair brush, so it does not melt. I don’t use the plastic brushes anymore, but when I did, I never melted any of them. You must have the blower a too close to your brush. Can you send a link of the type of brush you have?

  30.

[...] However, I want to clarify that I never blow out my entire length of hair, only the roots. With that in mind, I hold the brush at the scalp, pulling just enough to straighten the root and then pass the blower over (See the video.) [...]

I went to a Dominican salon in Florida. the results was about the same I was surprised with the 3 step process which I had gotten highlites . My hair was rolled the blown out then flat iron . In floridia it was HOT & Humid and even though myt curl leaft me in a day my hair remain straight.

  32.

Which salon did you go to?
