Hair Color Experiment – Pics

Thank you Harolito, for fixing my PC!!!

Now, I can finally post pics of my hair color experiment.

As a kid, my friends and I would use Kool-Aid to temporarily color out hair. So, I figured, why put all of the “extras” in? I decided to get a little crazy and go straight to the food coloring. After all, that’s what Kool-Aid does, right? Right!

I purchased a little, itty, bitty jar of red food coloring, as my options were few; it was a choice between yellow, red, or blue. Yeah, yeah…I know that I could have just about created any custom color I wanted using the primaries, but I’m not artistically inclined and figured the red would be an interesting option and a contrast to my natural ashy looking hair.

The results? Well, let’s just say that I had a lot more ‘tude with my hair after I rinsed it out. The red was RED and very vibrant. Thank GOD I didn’t do my entire head! It’s finally fading and doesn’t look all that shocking now, but I was really surprised at how well it took. Oh, have to mention that I added the red to my left over clear cellophane.

    Hi La Negra!!!
I’ve wanted red hair for like forever ..but… i have LOTS of gray hair (see my fotki album, not updated for maybe 3 years but there is a picture of my mom’s hair
    http://public.fotki.com/danysedai/family/sinttulo3.html)
sooo I had the brilliant idea(together with my dominican hair dresser lol) of applying red colour, I looked like a red skunk! a RED stripe on my edges and where I part my hair, I put some Stoken black dye over it reaally fast :)
I used to have red highlights that I BEGGED my hairdresser to do while still in Cuba, but couldn’t convince him again…

    Hola Dany! Como estas?

I couldn’t see the pic of your mother, but I have to say, you are GORGEOUS and a beautiful head of hair.
My red is finally fading, but not quick enough. It wasn’t horrible, but the thought that I almost applied it to my entire head cracks me UP! lol

Do you have black in now? I was thinking about black, but may just leave me hair color-free for a little while and let the red completely wash out.

oh, I guess you have to be have a fotki account now,you didn’t need one before in order to see the pictures.
I use Bigen, although I’ve been reading about people having allergic reactions, I’ve used Clairol Textures in the past with excellent results, but Bigen is better for my pocket as I have to dye so frequently because of my greys
    :)

I LOVE red hair! I’ve never used food coloring, but about a year ago, I baked in some Jazzing. I was good with the results, not so much with the way the color stained all of my clothes despite rinsing for a good 30 minutes. Ah well! It was almost a year ago and the color is all but gone, but here is what it looked like immediately after :-)

Oh Crys, I LOOOOOOOVE your red! I think I’m turned off mainly by the staining of my clothes. I tried burgundy color many years ago and loved it, but it definitely stains your clothes.

Ok, gotta ask…did you blowout or flatiron? Regardless, your hair is really pretty! Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks LaNegra :-)

Yep, I was wearing black shirts exclusively for a few weeks, lol…anything that would show red was out of the question unless my hair was pulled up! I wish there was a way to get the color without staining, and without being permanent…but I think that’s asking too much, lol!

    I flat-ironed…I don’t even think I owned a blower back then!
