You cannot even imagine how many times I asked this question over the past 4 or 5 years.

Every time I spotted a chica with nice looking hair I would slither my way up to her and swoop in like the C.I.A. “Pssst. You. Yeah, you. You gotta a Dominicana?” I’d ask in my lowest whisper, as if una dominicana was the next best drug.

After about ten times I knew to give it up. All of the girls would look at me like I was living la vida loca.

I was going to classes with my hair all messed up. Yeah, yeah, I know I was in school to learn, but who doesn’t want to look good, right? My friends had all started to laugh, because all of the pics that I sent home looked like I was just rolling out of bed or was a part of a science experiment. Things weren’t looking good.

I finally gave up and decided to start doing my own hair. Let’s just say that things didn’t always turn out as planned and for a minute I was thinking of going Annie Lennox or Toni Braxton just to be hair-free and hassle-free.

I’m glad I didn’t go that route.
