Lol the heat won't bother me too much. I only go for a good wash and set with a blow out once every month and a half because a GOOD one lasts me a week (provided there is no rain, snow, humidity;etc) and an excellent one lasts me a while. I try to space out the blowouts to give my hair time to get itself back together and maybe grow a bit more. But then again... once I did go to a place where it was dangerously hot under the dryer and the pins to hold my ear in place almost left burns. (O_O).. But do let me know. =]
I'm getting tired of the curls being in my way lol. Also.. How thick is too thick when it comes to bangs and how thin is too thin? =]

Hola Viv,

I'm glad you like the site :D
This is such a tough question, because there are a couple that I knew that did natural hair, but the amount of heat used was pretty frightening. However, if it's occasional, I suppose it couldn't hurt.

Ok, the one place I remember that did a really nice natural blow out was on 2nd Avenue, between 116th & 117th street. I think the salon is called D'Colores.
Now, the problem is I cannot remember the name of the stylist. She looks African American, but she's dominican; she's brown skinned with short, relaxed hair (wears a weave from time-to-time). If she's at the same booth. When you enter, she's on the right...closest to the register.

Then there's another that a friend of mine used to go to. The owner, I think her name is Ana, used to do her natural, unrelaxed hair and it looked wonderful.
I believe she's on 5th, or Lenox, but will have to check the specifics on this spot for you.

Negra =]

I am just finding out about your site and it is FABULOUS.
I have a question.. In NYC would you happen to know a place that straightens natural hair like no one's business for a decent price? I have went to salons who leave my hair puffy and don't do the rolos right and the place that does my hair decent has closed down. Any suggestions? :]

Hey Negra!
I'm looking for a flat iron to use after I get out of the hair dryer b/c I'm sick of blow drying it ( you know the drill). What kind of flat iron would you recommend? My hair is thick and curly - pretty typical dominican hair. Thanks!

You're not kidding about having to wait, in NYC. There have been times when I was the first one in the salon and still managed to spend half a day in there.
But we know how it is: one in the seat, one at the bowl and two under the dryer LOL.

Llubi, stop by again, k?

In response to Harlet's salon in Detroit Michigan....I love her. I agree that the wait can be a little over 2 hours but it's worth it. I'm originally from NYC and everyone is use to spending hours in a salon just to get their hair straight. I moved to Michigan 3 yrs ago and Harlet was a gift from heaven. I'm dominican so I know a good hair dresser is hard to find. The only annoying thing about going to Harlet's is all the men that flock all over you and try to talk to you. Later Chicas! and LaNegra ~ I'm so upset that I just found this site! It's fabulous!

I love Harlets! I've been going monthly for about a year and my hair is at its healthiest! It took me a while to get past the language barrier- I just bring a book. I never have to wait- thats because I usually go on a Wednesday morning (lucky that I have it off). My hair is always swinging and beautiful when I leave! Cant wait till tomorrow morning when I'm back in her chair :) lol- And I second using the CHI silk invusion, gorgeous results!!!
